Bill & Hiroko’s Burgers, Van Nuys

Burgers like my grandpa used to make!

Bill & Hiroko's Cheeseburger
Bill & Hiroko’s is near the Arclight in Sherman Oaks (my regular picture theater). If I’m heading to an early-afternoon movie during the week, I stop at Bill & Hiroko’s for a bite and skip the popcorn at the theater. They are open 8:30am – 4pm (M-F).

Double Cheeseburger at Bill & Hiroko's
The Double Cheese Burger is my favorite. Sometimes I get TWO.

No fries here, so order a bag of chips and a soda.

Bill & Hiroko's Burgers
It’s ALL BOUT the seasoning on the old-school 1930’s era grill.

Bill & Hiroko's Pastrami
Not a fan of burgers? The Pastrami on Rye is fantastic.

Super-filling Patty Melt.

Sign at Bill & Hiroko's Burgers
Look for this sign, or follow your nose. If the counter in front is full, head to the dining room in back. Covert PBR’s go down perfectly with these delicious belly bombs!

“Under $10” Lunches at Firenze Osteria

Firenze Osteria, my favorite neighborhood hangout, recently launched “Under $10” lunch specials, so my best friend Brent (aka @BiteMania) and I decided to check it out yesterday.

As a “Top Chef” fan, of course I had to try Fabio Viviani’s BLT burger (or “booorger”, as he pronounces in his charming, Italian accent). I’m also a big fan of meatloaf, so I loved Fabio’s version. Brent, who loves pork as much as I do, decided on the Fettuccini with four cheeses and sausage.

Thinking we had not ordered enough, we also shared a hefty iceberg wedge. But after splitting both the bacon burger and bacon-topped salad (lunch came with bread service), Brent took most of the pasta home to enjoy later. For this afternoon at least, one entrée each would have sufficed.

Photos of our lunch below. Please note we’ll be going back to try every dish on the “Under $10” menu , so check back here for updates!
